ECAC SOUTH REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS - SEMIFINALS
Delaware Valley College 5, Wesley College 0
READING (PA) - Sean Tappan pitched a complete-game, six-hit shutout
as third-seeded Delaware Valley College advanced to the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championship Game
with a 5-0 blanking of No. 2 Wesley College at Alvernia College.
The win improved the Aggies to 25-17 overall and they will now
meet the winner of the No. 1 Alvernia/No. 4 Washington & Jefferson
College contest (12:00 p.m.) in the 3:00 p.m. championship game.
A victory would give Delaware Valley its third ECAC crown since
1999. Wesley saw its season come to and end with a 27-15 record.
Tappan was at his best on Saturday morning as he improved to 5-5
on the season. The sophomore allowed just five singles and one double
while walking two and fanning five. Only three Wolverines reached
scoring position over the nine innings.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth with Zach Chodur
led off with a single and Kevin Weingart followed with a walk. Zach
Jakubowski advanced the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt,
bringing Mike Isgro to the plate. The all-Freedom Conference honoree
smacked a shot into the right-center field gap for a two-run triple
and a 2-0 Aggie lead.
Delaware Valley added a run in the sixth as Travis Roth led off
with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Aggies
upped the advantage to 5-0 in the eighth as Brent Terlecky hit a
solo home run over the left field fence and Weingart delivered a
two-out, RBI single.
Kellen Jarret was the lone player to have a multiple-hit game as
he went 2-for-4 for Delaware Valley. Isgro was 1-for-4 with the
two RBIs while Terlecky's round-tripper gave him a 1-for-2 showing
in the contest. Ryan Buckland (8-2) took the loss for Wesley.
