On Aug. 18 Delaware Valley College hosted a seminar entitled “Connections Count,” the second in a series designed to assist those hurt by the economic downturn.
This session, part of the college’s Economic Recovery Center, featured speaker Sonia Smith, administrator for Bucks County’s Economic & Business Development Program. She provided an overview of the local resources for people with an emerging business, an expanding business or who are about to enter the Bucks County marketplace.
Bryan Barts, DelVal’s assistant director of Career & Life Education, gave instructions on how to make business connections using LinkedIn, a free online service. And Jesse Berdinka, a former $300,000-a-year exec at MiramaxFilms, told the audience how he reinvented himself by moving back east and opening Chubby’s Ice Cream in Plumsteadville, Bucks County, Pa.
He said that at Miramax, "I was making so much money I thought this had to be right." But it wasn’t.
"It’s OK if you don’t know what you want to do," Berdinka said. "But make sure you know what you don’t want to do."
An introduction and welcoming address was given by DelVal President Joseph S. Brosnan.
