The Alumni Executive Committee is a key component in Delaware Valley College's Alumni Association. Each year, alumni hold elections to nominate representatives to serve on the Alumni Executive Committee.
The following biographies offer a brief history of each candidate.
Joe Ballantyne '74 (Representative)
Food Science
Since graduating from DelVal, Joe has spent the last 34 years in sales and marketing with various consumer packaged goods companies. Joe began his career working for a major Eastern Pennsylvania food brokerage company for 8 years. The next eight years were spent in various sales and marketing positions with the Dole Packaged Food division of Castle & Cooke, Inc. From there, Joe worked for two years with a division of Nutra Sweet as Eastern VP of Sales. Joe's next 13 years were spent with Nancy's Specialty Foods. Currently, Joe is the President/Owner of Earth Savvy Products, LLC selling and marketing a line of environmentally friendly reusable shopping bags. Joe looks forward to the prospect of continuing my association with the DelVal Alumni Executive Committee. The appointment of Dr. Joseph Brosnan as the new president is a positive addition for DelVal, and Joe looks forward to the opportunity to support his new vision for the college as part of this committee.
Stanley Barber '52
Ornamental Horticulture
As a student, Stan took part in the first ever A-Day along with several other clubs on campus. Currently, Stan is the Vice President for the Rotary and a Board member for New Life Youth and Family Services and a Board member in Community Housing. Stan has worked as a volunteer since 1998 and plans on continuing to help DelVal in any way he can. Stan views this opportunity as being able to give back to the college what the college has given him.
Marlene Burns '95
Business Administration
At DelVal, Marlene played Varsity Field Hockey for the Aggies. Marlene is currently employed as a Certified Financial Planner with Ameriprise Financial. She would like to help re-energize fellow alumni and help them reconnect to the college. Marlene would like to see the mentorship program be one of the greatest experiences that students have when graduating from Del Val. This program can provide a great stepping stone for DelVal students going out into the world.
Ray Funkhouser '72 (Representative of the Board of Trustees)
Biology
While a student at DelVal, Ray was active in Cross Country, Student Government and Yearbook. Currently, Ray is the Vice-President of USA Track & Field-Virginia, Master Level Track & Field Official, Masters competitor in Track & Field and Masters Swimming, Vice President of Mountain Lake Vegetation Management Council and Board member of Northern Neck Maternity Center. Ray has served over 15 years on the Alumni Executive Committee, was President of the Alumni Association for six years and serves as the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. Ray would be honored to represent the Alumni on the Board of Trustees. There have been many changes on campus as the college moves ahead with its mission, and Ray feels it is important that the alumni are actively engaged in that process.
George Perry '63 (Representative)
Horticulture
George was a Horticulture major, after which he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. For the last 25 years, George has been employed by Penn State as a Horticulture Agent, retiring in 2007. He resides with his wife, Barbara, in Berks County on their fruit and vegetable farm. While at DelVal, he was a member of the Hort. Club and varsity baseball team. George is a member of the National and State County Agents Association, Berks/Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and life member of the National Rifle Association. He is a member of the Alumni Executive Committee and enjoys informing prospective students about the college.
Harry Schussler '04 (Representative)
Ag. Business
During Harry's time at DelVal, he served as the Class of 2002 Vice President (2000-2002), Student Government Vice President (2002-2003) and Student Government President (2003-2004). Harry continues to serve the college as a member of the Alumni Executive Committee. Currently, Harry is living in Drexel Hill, PA with his wife, Roxann Hughes, and their dog Chase. He would like to continue serving on the Executive Committee, because he enjoys being involved and helping the students.
Joseph Stryjewski '73 (Representative)
Business Administration
Since Joe has obtained his education and degree at DelVal, he believed he owed much more to the college. Joe has actively participated in contributing his time to various classes, participating in various mentoring programs and staying active in alumni activities on the Alumni Executive Committee. Joe's goal has been and continues to be to make our Alumni Association the sounding board of our graduates and to provide a medium for Alumni input and participation in the growth of our college as well as interaction with our current students.
Michael Trainer '70
Chemistry
Michael was a member of the cheerleading squad his Freshman Year, a member of the Science club for four years and president of his junior and senior classes. He was a member of the A-Day and Homecoming committees his junior and senior years and was an active participant in intramural sports. Michael was named to Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities in 1970.
