Clean Access

Everyone using the student network is required to log onto Clean Access.

What Clean Access does do:

  1. Secures our wireless and wired networks.
  2. Ensure each user has an up to date operating system.
  3. Ensures users have up to date anti-virus software.
What Clean Access does NOT do:
  1. Monitor your online activity.
  2. Limit where you go and what you do online.
  3. Spy on any of your private files.
Goals of the Clean Access system:
  1. Prevent viruses and spyware from spreading on our network.
  2. Decrease the amount of wasted internet bandwidth.
  3. Help users keep their systems up to date.
  4. Prevent wireless bandwidth from being stolen.

Authorized Access using the Agent Program

The Clean Access Agent software should be installed on your computer to allow easy access to full network resources, including the internet, your X-drive, temp storage, etc. The client will check that your computer has a working anti-virus program installed, up to date anti-virus definitions, and that your copy of Windows is up to date. If all of these conditions are met, you will be granted full access. If one or more of the conditions are not met, you will be prompted with solutions. If you do not install the Clean Access Agent you will only be allowed to have limited network access. Many things will not work, like instant messenger programs.

Installation Instructions

Open Internet Explorer and attempt to browse to any web page (such as http://www.delval.edu). You will be prompted to log in. Use your DelVal username (same as your email address, but without the @delval.edu) and password. You will see a button that says "Download Clean Access Agent". Click that button, click Yes if prompted about redirection, then click Open when prompted for the CCAAgent_setup.exe file.

Once the setup starts, click Next at the welcome screen. Click Next again at the destination screen (or choose a different folder to install to). Finally, click on Install and it will begin copying files. Click Finish at the end.

When the Clean Access Agent pops up, enter your Username and Password again. You can check the Remember Me box to have it save your Username for a while. For Provider, leave the default setting. Changing this will result in you being unable to log on or access the network.

Once logged in, you may be prompted as having only temporary access. This is because your computer didn't meet one of the requirements. Click Continue and you will be prompted for the item(s) that need your attention:

1) Anti-virus: If the Agent does not find valid anti-virus software, you will be prompted to install it. A link is provided to DelVal's free Symantec anti-virus software, and it is recommended that you install that if don't have one of your own. Make sure you uninstall any other anti-virus software before you install DelVal’s copy of Symantec. Other anti-virus software should work but we can only support the Symantec/Norton Anti-Virus that we provide. Updates and new versions of other anti-virus software may not work with Clean Access until Cisco is able to add support for them to the system. **The Symantec Anti-Virus that we provide is only available on campus and for DelVal students.**

2) Anti-virus updates: If it detects a valid anti-virus, it may find that it is not up to date. If it is not, you can click the Update button to launch the anti-virus update function. If the updates fail due to an expired subscription, it is recommended you uninstall your expired software and install DelVal's free Symantec anti-virus or update the subscription of you current anti-virus program.

3) Windows Updates: The agent will detect whether or not your computer has any necessary service packs and other critical updates. If you do not, you can click the Go To Link button to launch the Windows Update page. To manually run updates, start Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu, then select Windows Update. You can also Click here to run Windows Updates manually.

4) You are done! If you either met the requirements or did the updates you needed, you will be able to access the network. You will still be prompted every so often to re-enter your password. If you Agent detects that any of the requirements are no longer met, you will be prompted again to fix that problem. If you were not able to complete all the requirements, you will have limited access and will have to enter your password every 30 minutes. In the future, you may lose connectivity entirely until your computer is secure.

***Please note that after a new operating system or antivirus program is released, it may be a while before the Clean Access is updated for the new program. This is especially true for new operating systems. Please check with Technology Services if you have questions about Clean Access compatibility.

Please contact Technology Services with any questions, concerns or problems that you may have.
