USGA Agronomist, Stan Zontek, spoke to Turf Club. He stated that some of the biggest challenges to golf course superintendents are learning Spanish, getting permission to remove trees and unrealistic expectations by golfers.

Agronomy Club visited Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, PA with Dr. DeBroux. They learned how agronomic plants are processed into beer.

Turf Club visits Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. Twelve students and Dr. Linde toured the field and learned how it was maintained. Afterwards, they ate dinner at the famous Pat's Steaks.

DelVal Golf Classic raised $40,000 for the Turf Management Scholarship Fund. This year, 108 golfers played the challenging and beautiful Huntingdon Valley Country Club. Adams-Bickel Associates (Builders of South Hall) was the title sponsor for the tournament.

Mr. Hepner received Outstanding Environmental Educator Award from the Bucks County Audubon Society. He was recognized for his composting projects and his sewage disposal projects that were conducted using waste from the College.

Campus putting green reseeded to L-93 creeping bentgrass. The green will be maintained with student labor. As with the previous green, it will be used as a teaching tool in all the turfgrass classes.

Turfgrass species and variety trials installed next to putting green. This project has 36 different varieties seeded adjacent to each other. Seed was donated by Jacklin Seed Co. through Simplot Company.

9th Annual DVC Golf Classic to be held at Huntingdon Valley Country Club on October 11. All proceeds benefit scholarships for Turf Management students.

Dr. Linde returned from a 7-month sabbatical, in which he conducted a golf course benchmarking project for the New Zealand Sports Turf Institute.

Construction on 4 new athletic fields began. Fields include softball, baseball, field hockey and a practice area.

PA Dept of Environmental Protection research conducted by Mr. Hepner began final year. Mr. Hepner investigates various methods to dispose of sewage water from homes.

Putting green sod was sold to benefit Turf Program. Renovation is planned for 2004.

Dr. Linde conducted research project with on-campus putting green. Geomatrix, Inc. and Dr. Linde investigated the dry-down of a putting green using vacuum suction applied to the green's drainage system.

Department hosted field day for soil scientists, sewage enforcement officers, septic system installers and waste-management engineers. Roughly 300 people attended, received hands-on training and toured Del Val's onsite waste-disposal research areas.

Barry Wise, Sophomore in Turf, placed 3rd in 133 lb-Class Division III Wrestling Championships. He was also named as a Division III All-American.
