Zoo Science

Are you interested in conserving and protecting endangered species or learning how to manage, breed and care for exotic animals? Are you preparing for a career in the exciting field of zoo and aquarium science? If so, DelVal has just the major for you!

The Zoo Science program at Delaware Valley College combines outstanding classroom instruction with hands-on internships and laboratories at a public zoo fully accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. While many colleges offer degrees in Zoology, the general study of animal life, Delaware Valley College is one of only two institutions in the nation to offer a four-year program in Zoo Science. Our Zoo Science curriculum — unlike Zoology programs — specifically prepares students for careers in zoo management and animal conservation.

A Unique Partnership

The Department of Animal Biotechnology and Conservation at Delaware Valley College extends the Zoo Science program by offering a collaboration with the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, PA. Our two institutions share a common mission centered on education; we strive to train future conservationists through programs that focus on wildlife management and preservation.

In DelVal's Zoo Science program, students benefit from the expertise offered by the staff both on campus and at Elmwood Park Zoo. This, along with the unique opportunity to work directly with zookeepers, curators, educators and administrative personnel, gives our students a fantastic start in the extremely competitive industry.
