Mission Statement

The mission of the Education Department at Delaware Valley College is to provide its students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become thoughtful, responsible and caring teachers, who, informed by scholarship and research, are prepared for the challenges of educating tomorrow’s leaders.

Our guiding principles reaffirm those of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, requiring that each of our graduates demonstrate:

• A thorough knowledge of the content and pedagogical skills in planning and preparation.
• An ability to establish and maintain a purposeful and equitable environment for learning.
• An ability to deliver instructions that engages students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies.
• Qualities that characterize a professional person in aspects that occur in and beyond the classroom/building.

These principles are encouraged, promoted and supported through program coursework, field experience, portfolio development and the capstone of student teaching.
