Careful reading, clear thinking and effective writing are needed in all areas of business, professions and academic life. Effective communication skills can make the difference between a job and a growing career. Your English degree from Delaware Valley College will prepare you to enter the working world with confidence, expertise and invaluable practical experience. You can be ready for journalism, teaching, editing, managerial positions, writing for businesses and the sciences or for continuing your education in graduate school.
As an English major, you will soon discover that smaller is better; small classes are the best way to improve your writing and verbal skills. We carefully limit writing class enrollment, and major literature courses usually have fewer than twenty students.
Your curriculum will be very flexible. Our major focus is upon learning to communicate clearly and effectively, and, through a broad exposure to the literary experience, you gain increased understanding of human thought, behavior and motivation.
In addition, your English major can be combined with a minor in any program offered on campus. Add technical depth, devote part of your curriculum to the earth sciences or the animal sciences, develop your business experience or earn your Teacher Certification; the choice is yours, and your advisor will explore the options with you.
