  • Horatio Alger Association Scholarships
    • Deadline: October 30, 2008
    • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen enrolled full time as a high school senior with a commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution. Student must have critical financial need, be involved in co-curricular and community activities and have a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The scholarship award and number of scholarships available per academic year varies.   • American Chemical Society
    • Deadline: March 1, 2008
    • To qualify, students must be an African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian, U.S citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an accredited college, university or community college with a 3.0 grade point average or better and demonstrated financial need. Must be a high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or chemically-related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences or chemical technology.   • American Institute of CPA Minority Scholarship
    • Deadline: June 1, 2009
    • Undergraduate students must be a declared accounting major with an overall and accounting GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale; a minority student who has satisfactorily completed at least 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or equivalent college work, including at least six semester hours in accounting and enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours or equivalent) unless the student is completing a final semester of study at a four-year or upper division institution. Students who will be attending a four-year school for the first time must include an acceptance letter from the school. The scholarship award is between $1500 and $5000; the number of scholarships available per academic year varies.

  • American Legion Legacy Scholarship
    • Deadline: April 15, 2009
    • Applicants must be a child or legally adopted child of active duty United States Military and Guard and Reserve personnel who were federalized and died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Must be a high school senior or high school graduate to apply for the scholarship. Scholarship is for undergraduate study at a U.S. school of higher education. The amount and number of awards depends upon the income derived from the trust. Scholarship recipients may reapply fro the award.

    • Deadline: January 30, 2009
    • This scholarship is available for students who are veterans of the Vietnam War, spouses or children of Vietnam veterans or refugees (during 1964 - 1975) from Vietnam, Laos or Cambodia. The scholarship award and number of scholarships available per academic year varies.

  • Datatel Scholars Foundation
    • Deadline: January 30, 2009
    • Applicants must be a undergraduate or graduate student who attends a college or university that is a Datatel site. Go to www.datatelscholars.org for criteria for several different scholarships available and an online application. Scholarship awards range from $700 to $2000; the number of scholarships available per academic year varies.
  • Delaware Valley Unit Herb Society of America - Pennsylvania Heartland Unit Scholarship
    • Deadline: April 1, 2009
    • The Pennsylvania Heartland Unit of The Herb Society of America, a group dedicated to the purpose of studying and actively sharing horticulture history and the use of herbs, offers a scholarship in the amount of $1500. This scholarship is available to a third or fourth year student within the study of horticulture. It will be awarded to a student living in the Heartland area (Berks, Montgomery, York, Lancaster and Schuykill counties). Horticulture major. The Department Chairperson will nominate recipient.   • Doylestown Nature Club Scholarship
    • This student must be a junior or senior majoring in Agronomy/Environmental Science, Ornamental Horticulture/Environmental Design or Horticulture with an exceptional academic record. Bucks County residents preferred. The scholarship award and number of scholarships available per academic year varies.

  • Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student +
    • Deadline: January 9, 2009
    • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. Current college students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; resident alien status does not qualify. Male and female students compete separately. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Approximately 500 scholarships are available per academic year; scholarship amounts range from $1000 to $15,000 per academic year.

  • Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania Scholarships
    • The following scholarships are awarded to students who plan to further their education in Horticulture, Floiculture, Landscape Architecture, Conservation, Forestry, Biology, Botany, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Environmental Control, City Planning, Land Management and/or allied subjects. Applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania and must be sponsored by a Federated Garden Club. The following scholarships are available to high school seniors, college students and post-graduate college students. Each scholarship award is a minimum of $1,000. Available scholarships include the Loise W. Dimmic Endowed Scholarship, the Marjorie E. Hamblin Annual Endowed Scholarship, the Catherine H. Kenworthy Endowed Scholarship, the Lois Dupre' Shuster Endowed Scholarship and the Mary Alice Wheeler Endowed Scholarship.
    • Miriam A. Steel Scholarship - Available to a high school senior. Preference will be given to a high school gardener, FFA or 4-H member. The State Chairman must receive all applications by February 15, 2009.
    • Katherine L. Reiger Scholarship - Available to a college student or post-graduate college student whose scholastic average is a "B" or above. Applicants may apply in their sophomore year. The state winner will compete for one of the National Council Scholarships of $3500.
    • Constance H. Smith Endowed Scholarship - Available to a college student or post-graduate college student each year. Applicants may apply in their freshman year. A minimum award of $1000 is granted.
    • Jane Layman Scholarship - Available to a high school senior every four years. A "B" average must be maintained to keep this scholarship enforced. On or before July 1, the recipient must send his/her scholastic record to the State Scholarship Chairman. Failure to comply will result in loss of the remaining money. Should the recipient forfeit by dropping out of school or not maintain a "B" average, a new winner will be selected the following year instead of the four-year period. The State Chairman must receive all new applications by February 15, 2009.
    • Edith Clemmer Steinbright Endowed Scholarship - Available to high school seniors, college students and post-graduate students each year. Preference will be given to a student from the southeastern part of the state. A minimum of $1000 is provided.
    • Audubon Scholarship - Available for the amount of $500 and is available to a Federated Garden Club member, a teacher or a college student for the Audubon Camp of his/her choice. A Garden Club member may receive this scholarship once every five years. The winner is responsible for their own transportation and any increase in fees. The sponsoring Garden Club may pay additional fees. The State Chairman must receive all applications by March 15, 2009.

  • Garden Club of Harrisburg
    • Applicants must be a graduate of a local high school or current college student, preferably from the local area, pursuing the study of Floriculture, Plant Pathology, Forestry, Horticulture, Landscape Design and related studies. Scholarship award is $1500; the number of scholarships available varies.
  • Garden Club of Somerset Valley, Inc. - Rudolf W. & Ans Van Der Goot Memorial Scholarship
    • Must be a resident of Somerset, Middlesex or Hunterdon County, or must be a New Jersey resident, in that order of preference. Must be enrolled full-time as a sophomore at Delaware Valley College and must have achieved outstanding academic excellence in a chosen major field of Horticulture, Plant Science or related flora areas such as a Landscape Architecture and Landscape Contracting and Management. Financial need is taken into consideration. The award and number of scholarships available per academic year varies.
  • Gates Millennium Scholars Program
    • Deadline: January 12, 2009 for online applications
    • Applicants must be entering a college or university as full-time, degree-seeking freshman. All applicants must also meet the eligibility criteria established for the federal Pell Grant Program. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program invites nominations for minority students completing undergraduate and graduate degree programs, particularly in the fields of mathematics, science, engineering, education or library science.   • Hispanic College Fund Scholarships
    • Deadline: March 15, 2009
    • Eligible students must be Hispanic or of Hispanic descent, must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico, must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year, must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student for the upcoming academic year 2008-2009, must have earned and maintain a cumulative GPA of no less than a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate financial need.   • Hispanic Scholarship Fund
    • Deadline: March 15, 2009
    • You or your family must be descended from at least one of the following countries: Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic.  Students from Brazil are eligible to apply. Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent), be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 and be pursuing or plan to pursue your first undergraduate or graduate degree. Students must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), be enrolled or plan to enroll full-time as an undergrad or graduate student in a degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam.   • Herb Gathers
    • Student must be enrolled in the Ornamental Horticulture curriculum with a special interest in Herb Propagation, be an upperclassman from Pennsylvania with a "B" average and have financial need. The recipient is nominated by Department Chairperson. The scholarship award and number of scholarships available per academic year varies.
  • Hughesian Grant-In-Aid
    • Deadline: April 15, 2009
    • The applicant must be a legal resident of Buckingham Township in Pennsylvania and must obtain the College Scholarship Service (CSS) financial aid profile brochure from his or her high school or college. This brochure tells you exactly how to register and apply (two different steps) for this service. Indicate your interest in the Hughesian Free School Trust, Code # 7188. You may register as early as January 1, 2009 but no later than March 1, 2009. The scholarship award and number of scholarships available per academic year varies.

  • The Keystone Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society Scholarship
    • Deadline:  February 13, 2009
    • Two $500 scholarships are being offered to college undergraduate students in the fields of agriculture, environmental studies, soils or natural resources.  Applicants should have sophomore, junior or senior status. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a combination of academic merit and program of study, quality of the written essay, financial need, and educational and career goals that are consistent with the SWCS mission. The SWCS strives to foster the science and art of natural resource conservation. Our work targets conservation of soil, water and related natural resources on working land — land that is used to produce food, fiber and other services that improve the quality of life people experience in rural and urban communities. We work to discover, develop, implement and improve ways to use land that sustains its productive capacity and enhances the environment. The scholarships will be available in March. Successful applicants will be notified by postal mail soon after the committee has arrived at a decision. We request that winners of previous years not apply a second time.   • The Liberty Mutual Scholarship Fund
    • Must be a full-time student at a private college/university affiliated with the Foundation for Independent Higher Education located in a qualifying state or be a legal/permanent resident and enrolled full-time at a private college/university affiliated with the Foundation for Independent Higher Education. Qualifying states include California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin. A list of the 655 private colleges and universities affiliated with FIHE can be found on the Foundation's website: http://www.fihe.org. Also, the student must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, be matriculated as a junior at the time of application and have an appropriate major and interest in working in a business environment.   • The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation +
    • Deadline: March 1, 2009 (high school seniors and incoming freshmen) April 15, 2009 (all other applicants)
    • Must be the son or daughter of a Marine on active duty or in the Reserve, a former Marine or Marine Reservist who has received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge or who was killed while in the service of our Country or a former U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served with the U.S. Marine Corps. Recipients may be a high school senior or a high school graduate who is currently enrolled as an undergraduate in an accredited college or university, a post high school or a vocational/technical school.   • Martha Washington Garden Club Scholarship
    • Deadline: April 30, 2009
    • Must be a high school or college student who plans to pursue a career in any of the following fields: Horticulture or related fields, such as Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Conservation or Floriculture and plan to attend an accredited college to further their education in one of the listed fields. If in high school, applicants must provide a college acceptance letter, a copy of their transcript, a list of high school activities, community service, work experience and references as requested on the application form.   • John McKee Scholarship Program
    • Deadline: February 1, 2009
    • Applicant must be a high school senior or graduate not over the age of 19 at time of application, who are fatherless boys (i.e. the father is actually dead or has been declared missing by a competent authority) of any race in need of financial assistance and are native to the five-county Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia).   • Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarships
    • Deadline: January 15, 2009
    • Applicants must be enrolled for the academic year following the award in a degree program in an accredited U.S. institution of post-secondary education and be a citizen or legal resident of the U. S. General awards are unrestricted as to age, race, gender, level of post secondary education, grade point average and financial need.   • The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fund
    • The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fund was established in 1948 to provide educational assistance for children of military families.  It is based on one of the Association's founding principals that "education's the cornerstone of a strong Democracy".  It is supported by donations and bequests from MOAA chapters, members, corporations, and others. MOAA offers scholarships and grants for students seeking undergraduate degrees.

  • Morris Land Conservancy's Scholarship Program
    • Deadline: April 1, 2009
    • Applicant must be a resident of New Jersey, considering a career in New Jersey in an environmental field, a student in good academic standing (at least 15 credits completed) at a college or university offering a recognized degree in environmental science, natural resource management, conservation, horticulture, park administration or a related field and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Available scholarships include the Russell W. Myers Scholarship and the Rogers Family Scholarship. Two $6000 scholarships are available per academic year.

    • Applicants must be a FFA member planning to pursue a college degree majoring in any area of farming after graduation. Financial need will be considered and is a very important criteria.   • National Italian American Foundation Scholarship Program
    • Deadline: March 6, 2009
    • To be considered for a NIAF scholarship, a student must be enrolled in an U.S. accredited institution of higher education for the Fall 2008, have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 (or the equivalent), be a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien, fit into one of the two NIAF scholarship categories and, for the purposes of the NIAF Scholarship Program, to be "Italian American" the student must have at least one ancestor who has immigrated from Italy.   • National Merit Scholarship Corporation
    • Deadline: Please see PSAT/NMSQT Student Bulletin
    • Eligibility: All areas of study. Students must be U.S. citizens. Students enter the competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in October of their junior year in high school. There are approximately 7000 awards per year; non-renewable scholarships are awarded at $2500; renewable scholarships are awarded between $250 and $2000 or more.

  • National Society of Accountants Scholarship Foundation
    • Deadline: March 10, 2009
    • Eligible students must be majoring in accounting with a "B" or better grade point average, students enrolled in a degree program at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university and be in their second, third or fourth year committed to their major in accounting. Only undergraduate students are eligible; only U.S. or Canadian citizens attending a U.S. accredited business school, college or university may apply.   • New Jersey Foster Care Scholars Program
    • Applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 22, have been in the care and custody of the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) for a period of nine months or more following the youth's 16th birthday, currently reside in or have previously resided in a New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services paid placement for at least two years, be adopted through the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services after age 12 or be in a subsidized adoption at the time of application, reside in or have resided in an independent living arrangement or transitional living program for youth in out-of-home placement ( the facility or program must be established, operated or approved for payment by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, the federal government pursuant to the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act or the New Jersey Homeless Youth Act ), be in possession of a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency, be granted admission to an accredited degree or certificate granting post-secondary institution and register and participate in the E-Mentoring Program through Project MY SELF while receiving any assistance through the NJFC Scholars Program.   • J.J. Noonan scholarship
    • Deadline: April 2, 2009
    • Students must be pursuing a career in the laboratory animal sciences. Awards are based on merit, achievement and financial need. Scholarships of $800 are awarded; the number of scholarships available per academic year varies.

  • Joseph Shinoda Memorial Scholarship Foundation Inc.
    • Deadline: March 30, 2009
    • Applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States (or in a California community college), must be a sophomore, junior or senior for the 2008-2009 academic year, majoring in a degree program related to the field of floriculture (production, distribution, research or retail) and intend to work in some phase of commercial floriculture in the United States after graduation. Grades, need, work status, character and intent are considered. Applications, letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc., must reach the foundation no later than March 30 to be eligible.   • W.W. Smith Charitable Trust
    • Includes: W.W. Scholar Award of $2000 to $2500 and the W.W. Smith Prize/Senior Award of $5000

    • Student must be enrolled fulltime, at sophomore, junior or senior level, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and have demonstrated financial need.
