Laura Herbst

B.S. (Chemical Engineering), University of Virginia
M.S. (Food Science), Penn State University

Ms. Herbst was drawn to Food Science when she realized she could be researching candy instead of chemicals. Her graduate work was on gummy bears, and she worked closely with the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Confectioners Association. Then, she spent eight years working at the Kraft Foods Technology center outside Chicago. She has worked on product and process development on process cheese slices and long-term research on extending shelf life of refrigerated foods.

Ms. Herbst is glad to be back in Pennsylvania with the moderate weather and rolling terrain. She enjoys being a mom for preschoolers Sam and Leigh and loves finding time to walk, bake and read mysteries. Ms. Herbst teaches the Food Engineering courses.
