DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE TO PARTICPATE IN AREA TAX-ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
DOYLESTOWN, PA, - (January 16, 2008) - For the fourth consecutive year, Delaware Valley College business students will provide free tax-preparation assistance to Bucks County low-income families beginning Thursday, January 31 with a kickoff at 10:00 a.m. in the Joseph Krauskopf Memorial Library on the DelVal campus in Doylestown.
The program is part of the United States Internal Revenue Service's VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. Beginning Saturday, February 12 and then continuing through April 12, DelVal students will be available on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Business, accounting and other majors have been trained and certified by the IRS to perform the free tax service for "qualified" low-income individuals and families.
The Opportunity Council, which helps low-income working families become economically self-sufficient, will recruit Bucks County residents who are eligible to collect an earned income tax credit (EITC) refund. During the program's first three years, DelVal students helped 419 families and households work through the complexities of tax returns and completed $1,155,565 in refunds, earned income credits and saved service fees, saving the families more than $111,750 in provided services.
For more information or to schedule an appointment or a screening to see if you qualify, call Viktoria O'Donnell of the Bucks County Opportunity Council, Inc., at 215-345-8175, Ext. 240.
