DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE STUDENT SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN USGA GREEN SECTION

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., -- (April 13, 2007) - Delaware Valley College student, Anthony Garzia, Jr., of Delran, N.J., has been selected as one of only 15 college students nationally to the 2007 USGA Green Section Internship Program to travel with Green Section staff members during their Turf Advisory Service (TAS) visits to golf facilities located throughout the nation for one week between May and August.

Garzia is a turf management major in the Agronomy & Environmental Science Department and is president of the College's Turf Club, a group whose mission is to provide students with additional educational opportunities and industry contacts as well as social interaction with other "turfers."

USGA staff agronomists conduct on-site TAS visits to golf facilities to bring research results and practical information on construction and maintenance practices directly to golf course superintendents and course officials. The goal of the internship program is to provide students with a broader view of the golf course industry and the opportunity to learn about golf course maintenance practices through the perspective of USGA Green Section agronomists.

First started in 1953, the TAS permits individual facilities to reap the benefits of on-site visits by highly skilled USGA agronomists located in Green Section offices throughout the country. Two current USGA agronomists were once TAS interns. The TAS's purpose is to bring to golf course management impartial information regarding turfgrass growth requirements, how these requirements might best be managed for golf, and ideas that other golf courses have found to be beneficial.

The USGA is the national governing body of golf in this country and Mexico, a combined territory that includes more than half the game's golfers and golf courses. For more information, visit http://www.usga.com.

Doylestown, Pa., -- (April  9, 2007) - Delaware Valley College students earned a Gold Award during the Sixth Annual North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) held March 30-March 31, in the Sioux Falls, S.D. area.

Team members included: senior dairy science majors, Brian Forsythe of Hagerstown, Md., Tyler Wagner of Coudersport, Pa., as well as senior Secondary Education - Agribusiness major Lane Innerst of Red Lion Pa., and junior, Erin Magness of White  Hall, Md., who is majoring in agronomy and environmental science.

Student teams used this information to develop management recommendations, and then presented their management recommendations to a panel of five dairy industry judges.

The North American Dairy Challenge was established as a management contest to incorporate all phases of a specific dairy business. It strives to incorporate a higher-learning atmosphere with practical application to help prepare students for careers in the dairy industry. Supported financially through generous donations by industry and coordinated by a volunteer board of directors, the first NAIDC was held in April 2002.
