THE MARKET AT DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE TO CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK'S DAY WITH IRISH "POTATOES" DEMO

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., -- (March 1, 2006) - To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, staff members of The Market at Delaware Valley College will hold cooking demonstrations on Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m., at The Market on Lower State Road on the DelVal campus.

Participants will learn the art of making Irish "Potatoes," a traditional Philadelphia candy favorite made during this time of year in remembrance of the historic Irish potato famine. "Our mission is to educate students in all aspects of operations of a retail grocery establishment," said Michelle Wirtz, event planner at The Market. "We love that we can bring our students and community together with programs like these particularly because our students learn that side of the business and community members enjoy learning through the events. We anticipate showcasing our students' skills by continuing to host demonstrations and other events."

Doylestown, Pa., -- (March 3, 2006) - Delaware Valley College will host the fourth annual Algonquin Film Festival of Bucks County on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26, in the auditorium at the Doylestown campus.

In its fourth year, the film festival offers yearly film exhibition, seminars and workshops to aspiring filmmakers and cinephiles in and around Bucks County.

The agenda for the film festival includes showings of new short music videos, comedy films and other films as well as a poetry performance.

This year, the Algonquin Film Festival will host a presentation by scriptwriter and Bucks County resident William Mastrosimone, whose teleplay, Into the West, was produced by Steven Spielberg for a mini-series starring Gary Busey and Josh Brolin in 2005.

Mastrosimone also penned the play Extremities, which was made into a film starring Farrah Fawcett, James Russo and Alfre Woodard, in 1986, and Sinatra, a mini series produced for television in 1992.

DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE EARNS "BEST OF SHOW" HONORS AT PHILADELPHIA FLOWER SHOW

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., -- (March 10, 2006) - A team of Delaware Valley College students led by faculty members in the Ornamental Horticulture and Environmental Design Department earned "Best in Show: Academic/Educational" honors at the 2006 Philadelphia Flower Show.

Their work, "Pioneers of Penn's Woods" depicting more than three centuries of Philadelphia's green heritage earned the team the top honor.

DelVal assistant professors, Howard Eyre and Eve Minson, directed the students in the exhibit. According to the exhibit, The Philadelphia area has been a hotbed of horticultural interest for hundreds of years, enticing both famous and unknown plant explorers, botanists, horticulturists and designers to its forests and floodplains. Unfortunately, many of today's horticulturists simply do not know the background of the plants they collect and treasure and some of the plants have been lost because of their fragile nature or destruction of their habitats. The goal of the DelVal exhibit was to draw attention to what remains of Penn's Woods and the need to protect and appreciate it.

The Philadelphia Flower Show is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society and is the largest indoor flower show in the world.
