Question: I am on academic probation. Will this affect my ability to participate in the Housing Process?
Answer: Academic probation does not hinder a student from participating in the Housing Process; however, if that student does not meet the academic requirements by the end of the semester and is academically dismissed or placed on Non-Degree status, his/her housing and meal plan assignment will be cancelled. If a student is on Disciplinary Probation as of April 14, 2008, the student will not be assigned a lottery number and will not be assigned housing until all students, including incoming freshmen students, have been placed. This will also be based on availability of spaces.
Answer: If a potential roommate is on Disciplinary Probation, s/he can not sign up for housing with you during the Housing Process. S/he will be assigned housing (based on availability) after all students, including incoming freshmen, have been assigned. If your potential roommate does receive housing and you still wish to room together after the start of the 2008 Fall Semester, you may be able to do so as part of the room change process. This would depend on the willingness of all parties involved to agree to the room change.
Answer: Yes; not only do both the deposits have to be paid, but you must also meet the following criteria:
- You must be in Good Disciplinary Standing
- You must be a present full-time student and registered for a minimum of 12 credits for the 2008 Fall Semester no later than April 9, 2008
- You must attend designated Housing Assignment Night or arrange to have a student attend with a Proxy Form.
Answer: Attend the Roommate Mixer on Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 9:30 - 10:30 p.m. in the Coffee House.
Answer: If, by the time that Housing Assignments begin in April, you have not been able to find a roommate and are unable to attend the Mixer, you can still sign up for a space based on your lottery number. Please be aware that if two separate students desire to live in the same building but lack roommates, Residence Life reserves the right to consolidate the two students into one room.
Answer: South Hall costs an additional $500 per semester in comparison to the other residence halls on campus.
Answer: Housing Assignments made in April are for current students only. An incoming freshmen or transfer student will be assigned a space during the summer. If you and the incoming freshmen or transfer student still wish to room together after the start of the 2008 Fall Semester, you may be able to do so as part of the room change process. This would depend on the willingness of all parties involved to agree to the room change.
Answer: Students requesting special housing accommodations due to a medical or mental health condition must provide the necessary documents as stated under the "Room Assignments" policy on page 44 of the 2007-2008 Student Handbook. All requests and associated documentation must be provided to the Assistant Dean of Students no later than March 31, 2008. You will be informed of the decision by April 4, 2008. Be that as it may, the need for an air conditioner does not guarantee assignment to South or Centennial Halls. If a student is approved for an air conditioner and is assigned to another building, the student will have to rent an air conditioner from the Physical Plant. The fee for this is $100.00. Students are not allowed to bring their own air conditioners. Please note: If, during the Housing Process, you choose a room that is labeled as "ADA" (Americans with Disabilities Act), you may be re-assigned if that room is required to meet the needs of another student under the federal guidelines. Four (4) rooms in Centennial and seven (7) rooms in South Hall I are designated as ADA.
Answer: It is critical that you attend the respective Housing Assignment Night with your potential roommate; however, if you or your potential roommate can not make it due to a family commitment, job or unexpected emergency, the student in attendance must provide a completed Proxy Card from the other student and bring it with you on the assigned housing night. This proxy card gives you the power to sign up for a room for both of you. Proxy cards can be picked up at the Office of Residence Life (2nd Floor - Student Center).
Answer: You would both attend the night that corresponds to the lowest lottery number. Based on the example above, you would both attend on Monday, April 14 (lottery numbers 1 - 175).
Answer: If you have met the criteria, as outlined earlier, you would sign up on the night that corresponds to your lottery number or the lowest lottery number of your potential roommate, if applicable.
Answer: Enlarged Floor Plans will be posted in the waiting area. Once a room is filled, a staff member will cross the room off the floor plan.
