Housing Process

For Current Students Only

To more easily understand how housing works, please refer to the following example of two students who wish to be roommates:

James and Scott want to room together. James is a junior and Scott is a sophomore. As a result of the Housing Lottery, Scott, the sophomore, has the best lottery number (#23). As such, Scott and James would attend the first night of Housing Selection and Assignment on Monday, April 14, 2008. On this night, James and Scott go to the APR (Student Center) and bring their Housing Profile Forms with them. Upon entering the APR, they take a seat to wait for their name to be called. Names will be called in lottery number order (1, 2, 3, etc.). James and Scott are given a copy of the Housing Agreement Form to read and may complete all sections EXCEPT the building and room portion. Note: If the roommates have signed up for a space in South Hall, they will also sign the South Hall Addendum Agreement.

Scott hears his name called and he, along with James, approach the check-in desk with Housing Profiles in their hands. Scott and James will present their Student IDs to verify identities, and their names will be checked off the list. Once this is completed, they will be directed to the Housing Assignment Area to choose their room. Scott and James still have their Housing Profiles and Housing Agreements with them.

At the Housing Assignment Area, Scott and James will find staff as well as "blown up" floor plans of all buildings available to upperclass students for assignment. They will approach the desk and pass their forms to the staff member present. Scott and James can then review all available rooms and pick the room they want. Once they have chosen, the staff member will fill in the specific room on the floor plan with their names and also enter this information on their forms. Once this is completed, the staff member will initial the Housing Profiles and return them.

Scott and James will then take their Housing Profiles and Housing Agreements to the Data Entry Desk. A staff member will collect these forms and enter their room assignment, as well as their meal plan, into the database. Once this is completed, Scott and James are done and may leave the housing assignment area.

Hopefully,  this example has helped more clearly explain the housing process. If you still have questions on how the process works, please feel free to contact the Office of Residence life at .
