Concert Band

The Delaware Valley College Concert Band has been an important part of campus life for nearly 100 years. The 65-person ensemble is dedicated to providing members an opportunity to perform outstanding concert band music in a supportive environment. The band, under the direction of Dr. Jack Schmidt, is open to all DelVal students, alumni, faculty, staff and interested musicians in the Bucks County region. Nearly all of our student members have achieved the distinction of performing in County, District, Regional or All-State Bands while in High School. The ensemble performs at various special events throughout the year, including Family Weekend, Commencement, A-Day and Founder's Day, and performs annual Winter and Spring Concerts. Concert repertory includes concert band masterpieces, marches, jazz arrangements and works by contemporary composers. Works performed by the band in recent semesters include Dmitri Shostakovich's Festive Overture, Darius Milhaud's Suite Francaise, Frank Ticheli's Blue Shades, Eric Whitacre's Waternight, George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Gordon Jacob's William Byrd Suite. The ensemble issued its premiere CD in Fall 2002 and released its second CD in Fall 2006. Talented members of the concert band may be selected to perform in the DelVal Jazz Band.

The Delaware Valley College Band rehearses throughout the school year on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. DelVal students may participate in Band for credit (one credit per semester) or as an extra-curricular activity. Students that take Band for credit two consecutive semesters may be exempt from the music portion of Introduction to the Arts (a Core Curriculum requirement). If taking band for credit, register for LA 1058.
