Delaware Valley College Commencement Information and Procedures 2008

Commencement Rehearsal: At promptly 4:00 p.m. on Friday, all graduating students will meet in front of Segal Hall to rehearse the commencement procedures.  It is very important that you be on time for this rehearsal.

Commencement Social/Picnic:
Also on Friday, following rehearsal, a Commencement Social/Picnic will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the Picnic Grove behind the Admissions Building.  In the event of rain, the picnic will be held in the Dining Hall.

Continental Breakfast: From 7:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, a Continental Breakfast will be served in the courtyard of the Student Center for graduates and their families. In the event of inclement weather, the Continental Breakfast will be served in the Levin Dining Hall Lobby.

Baccalaureate Services: Services will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel.

Commencement Exercises:
At 9:45 a.m. on Commencement Day, all participants will report, in their caps, gowns and hoods, to the marshaling area between Work Hall and Centennial and line up no later than 10:00 a.m. for their entrance into the commencement tent. In the event of inclement weather, student will gather in the lounge and under the portico of Work Hall. Commencement exercises will begin promptly at 10:15 a.m. This year, we have ordered a tent so that the commencement exercises will be held on the quad, rain or shine, and no tickets will be needed.

Commencement Stand Up Reception: From 12:15 p.m. through 3:00 p.m., there will be a Stand-Up Reception for graduates and their families in the All Purpose Room of the Student Center.

Additional Important Information:

Tickets: No tickets are needed since Commencement is held outside in a tent, rain or shine.

Caps, Gowns and Hoods can be picked up at the Bookstore, starting March 24. All requirements must be fulfilled per the Bursar and Registrar's offices before you can receive your cap and gown.

Also from the Bookstore:

  • March 24, March 25 and March 26, the Grad fair will be held at the Bookstore.
  • Herff Jones will be here to measure for school rings; they will also have a full supply of diploma frames.
  • Bucks County Department of Tourism will be with us on Monday with brochures and maps for out of state visitors who would like to take in some Bucks County sites.
  • Refreshments, prizes and fun will accompany all three days of the fair.
  • Roses and balloons will be available for purchase on Commencement Day; if you would like to place an early order, please call Sue Green at 215-489-2259.

Parking is available in both A and D lots, behind the Student Center or in front of Admissions. The Segal Hall parking area is reserved for handicapped parking.

Special Needs: If you or a family member has any special needs, please call the Office of Public Safety and Security at 215-489-2315 or the Office of Learning Support at 215-489-2490 to make appropriate arrangements.

Diploma Pick-Up: Following Commencement, diplomas for graduates will be in the Student Center Lobby until 1:30 p.m. All financial obligations must be met in order to receive your diploma.

Resident Students - Return of Room Keys: Room inspections should take place prior to Commencement. All rooms must be vacated by 8:00 p.m. on Commencement Day, and residence hall room keys must be returned to the Area Coordinator of your building. Make sure mailbox keys (to post office) and any other college keys (to appropriate office) are returned as well.

All records will be withheld until keys are returned.
