A proud member of the Delaware Valley College Class of 1969, William “Bill” Dougherty embodied what it means to be a true Aggie. Known for his boundless enthusiasm, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his alma mater, Bill was deeply committed to supporting DelVal students and fostering a vibrant alumni community.
For more than 26 years, Bill served with distinction on the DelVal Alumni Council, where he mentored students, encouraged lifelong connections among alumni, and exemplified the spirit of service that defines the DelVal community. His passion for education and his belief in giving back were recognized in September 2016, when he received the Patricia C. Hilton ’76 Volunteer Service Award for his exceptional dedication and service to the University. In October 2022, Bill was further honored with DelVal’s President’s Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his lifetime of leadership and commitment.
Bill’s integrity and lifelong dedication to “science with practice”—a value shared with the university’s Founder Rabbi Dr. Joseph Krauskopf and central to the University’s mission—continues to inspire all who knew him and those who benefit from his lasting generosity.
Bill’s legacy of mentorship, integrity, and philanthropy lives on through the William and Elisabeth M. Dougherty Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by his beloved wife, Elisabeth, and their family. This fund honors Bill’s enduring belief in the power of education and his desire to ensure that future generations of DelVal students have the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
