The programs in Large Animal Science are designed to address the diversity of opportunities available in the animal science field. Students must select a major in either Livestock Science and Management, Equine Science and Management or Equine Studies upon entering the college.

For students majoring in Livestock Science or Equine Science, the department maintains a livestock farm and equine facility.

The curriculum in each program provides the student with a solid mix of liberal arts, basic science and professional courses to assure the student becomes a well-rounded, well-educated professional in the animal science field. Recent graduates in Large Animal Science have been employed as Livestock and Horse Farm Managers, Extension Service workers, Animal Care Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, Stable Workers, Trainer/Manager Staff, Lab Technicians at Pharmaceutical companies, Sales Representatives for Pharmaceutical and Feed companies. Many choose to continue their education at graduate or veterinary school.

Students may elect to earn a minor in any major outside of Large Animal Science. These minors, consisting of 15 credits (16 credits for Equine Science and Management), allow the student to obtain a high degree of technical and practical knowledge in very specific areas.
