Dr. Maria Gallo, Delaware Valley University's 13th, and first female president, has lead the institution since July 2016.
A Message from the President
Our motto, “Dream, Design, Do,” is new – but the inspiration that powers it has defined us for well over a century. From our earliest days in the 1890s, hands-on experience has been a key to why our students learn so effectively. Our founder, Joseph Krauskopf, called it “science with practice” – learning by studying and doing. Now that “experiential learning” has become a powerful guiding principle in education, we’re committed to making DelVal a leader in the approach.
Working with passionate faculty members and peers, DelVal students gain invaluable real-world training from Day One through our unique Experience360 Program, an initiative so cutting-edge that the National Society for Experiential Education named it Outstanding Experiential Education Program of the Year. Students study theory in small classes, then learn by doing across our acres of “living laboratories.” There’s impressive proof that E360 is instrumental in increasing career outcomes for graduating seniors.
DelVal is a comprehensive university whose rigorous undergraduate curricula include not only agricultural, physical, environmental and life sciences, but humanities, liberal arts and business. With a student-to-faculty ratio of just 13:1, students quickly become part of a close-knit campus with a high level of personal attention and mentoring. Many students blend majors to create custom curricula.
DelVal also offers graduate programs in business administration, counseling psychology, criminal justice, teaching and learning, special education, educational leadership, and public policy, along with a doctorate in education. At this level, our focus on E360 is realized by a faculty of high-level working professionals who draw on their real world experiences to complement their classroom teaching.
In line with our strategic initiatives, we are launching three new graduate programs in Fall 2020: a M.S. in Agribusiness Management, a M.A. in Management and Organizational Leadership, and a Master's in Healthcare Management. These programs are designed to address the specific needs of these industries and taught largely by active leaders in these fields. We have also extended our graduate offerings in Education with three new programs: Autism Spectrum Disorder Endorsement, STEM Endorsement and Special Education Add-on Certification.
As DelVal’s 13th president, I have worked with my colleagues across the University to create an atmosphere that inspires people and fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, clear communication, responsible resource stewardship and strong partnerships.
2020 has already seen the COVID-19 pandemic and powerful new activism for racial equality here and around the world. It will take the commitment of the best prepared students to help address these critical issues – not only with their minds, but with their hearts. This level of passion powers everything we do at DelVal. I couldn’t be prouder to lead our exceptional university at this pivotal time in history.
