Britney
Alcine, PhD
,
Director of Music and Arts, Assistant Professor of Music

Drawn to teaching through a lifelong love of music, Dr. Britney E. Alcine is passionate about sharing music with fellow musicians and audiences alike. As an educator, she helps students develop effective practice habits, sharpen their listening skills and transform notes on the page into meaningful musical ideas, both individually and as part of an ensemble. She remains invested in music education because the field continues to evolve and believes it is essential for students to understand the classics and standard repertoire while also engaging with new sounds, styles and technologies shaping today’s musical landscape.

Alcine began her conducting journey in 2010 as drum major of her high school marching band, an experience that inspired her desire to lead ensembles in rehearsal and performance. She earned her Bachelor of Music in 2016 and spent three years teaching music in the Elizabeth Public Schools before pursuing graduate studies in conducting. She completed her Master of Music in orchestral conducting in 2022 and her Doctorate of the Musical Arts in instrumental conducting in 2025. During her graduate studies, she worked with professional musicians in Boston, taught online workshop lessons in New York City, conducted youth, high school festival and collegiate orchestras in Connecticut, and taught music theory at The Hartt School. These experiences inform an inclusive, engaging classroom approach designed to support students with diverse skill levels and musical backgrounds.
