Delaware Valley University Adds Four New Trustees

Delaware Valley University has added four new members to its Board of Trustees, including an alumni trustee. 

“The experience of our new Board members will be valuable as we implement the new strategic plan for the University,” said DelVal President Dr. Maria Gallo. “DelVal is at an exciting point in its history and has ambitious goals for the future. These new Board members will help us put these ideas into action at the University.”

The University’s new trustees are:

W. Matthew Dougherty ’96 


Dougherty joined the University’s Board as the alumni trustee. Having spent nearly two decades with Amgen, a leading independent biotechnology company headquartered in Southern California, Dougherty has made significant contributions to the company. Amongst other disease areas, in recent years, he has worked on developing several emerging therapies in the areas of migraine and chronic heart failure, while also providing oversight, and ensuring strategic alignment, for key partnerships. Most recently, he has accepted an opportunity with a global pharmaceutical organization on the East Coast, where he will be providing program management leadership in the oncology therapeutic area. Dougherty plans to return to the Philadelphia area in late summer to start his new position. Dougherty is a graduate of Delaware Valley University.

Krista Pool Harper, Esq.

Harper started Harper Business Law, a firm in Doylestown, to provide high-quality legal services to businesses. She has over 25 years of experience in business and real estate law. Before starting her firm, Harper spent the majority of her career working with some of Bucks County’s largest and most well-respected law firms. She has also worked for prominent firms in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Mexico. Harper brainstorms with clients to structure new business ventures and helps co-owners maintain productive business relationships. In December 2011, Harper was listed in SmartCEO Magazine as one of its Legal Elite. She serves on the Board of Directors of Penn Community Bank and Pearl S. Buck International.  Harper is a graduate of Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Michael Rettig

Rettig is global general counsel and chief compliance officer of Giorgi Global Holdings, Inc., which has various agricultural and packaging manufacturing businesses headquartered in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and Krakow, Poland and with operations in over 20 countries. Since starting his legal career 30 years ago, Rettig has held senior legal positions in and focused his practice on the types of issues confronting multi-national chemical, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing organizations, including compliance; environmental, health and safety; insurance and risk management; labor and employment; litigation; and product safety and liability. Rettig is a graduate of Rutgers University where he earned both his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and his law degree. 


William R. Schutt

Schutt is the founder, former owner, and chairman of MATCOR, Inc., an engineering and manufacturing company. He holds several U.S. and foreign patents. Schutt has been recognized as a top expert in infrastructure corrosion and was part of a White House delegation. He has published numerous technical papers and lectured all over the world. National media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal and national radio and television programs have featured Schutt for his business and technical accomplishments. In 2016, he was awarded an honorary degree at DelVal’s Commencement ceremony. He is a graduate of Drexel University.
