Delaware Valley University (DelVal) and Doylestown Pride Festival will host "The Power of Grief: Transforming Mourning into Momentum During Times of Loss, Fear and Uncertainty in LGBTQ+ Communities". As part of DelVal's Business, Arts and Sciences Colloquium series, "Question It! Change It! Chaos as the New Normal", the event will be held in DelVal's Life Sciences Building Auditorium on Wednesday, September 17, from 6 - 8 p.m.

This interactive discussion will engage leaders, advocates and allies in holding space for the grief that emerges during times of unrest, sharing healthy strategies for processing one's grief - both in solitude and in community - and exploring ways to find joy, maintain focus, and remain committed to the movement for LGBTQ+ pride & equality in the face of adversity. NAMI, The Rainbow Room, A Woman's Place, and Doylestown Pride Festival will have tables at the event.

Panelists include:

Nicholas Emeigh, associate executive director, NAMI Bucks County

Angela Giampolo, Esq., attorney and LGBTQ+ legal expert

Celena Morrison McLean, former executive director of LGBTQ+ affairs for the City of Philadelphia

Marlene Pray, community organizer and director of Planned Parenthood Rainbow Room

"This year's colloquium theme, "Chaos as the New Normal," reflects the turbulence of the current moment. By creating a space for dialogue around grief, identity and resilience, we help our students and community engage with some of the most pressing challenges of our time," said Dr. Tanya Casas, Dean of the School of Business, Arts, and Sciences.

DelVal's Business, Arts and Sciences, "Question It! Change It!" Colloquium Series is a forum for students and the broader DelVal community to engage in informed and guided conversations about contemporary problems and issues. Faculty in the School of Business, Arts and Sciences present lectures addressing these current issues from their respective disciplines, facilitate discussion and provide resources to deepen our understanding.
