Delaware Valley University President Dr. Maria Gallo Selected as a 2019 Women’s Empowerment Honoree

Delaware Valley University President Dr. Maria Gallo has been selected as a 2019 honoree for Women's Empowerment for the YWCA’s 28th Annual Salute to Women Who Make a Difference Awards. Dr. Gallo will be honored at an awards ceremony on Thursday, May 16 at Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland, Pennsylvania. 

Salute to Women Who Make a Difference is a hallmark event of the YWCA that proudly honors female leaders who live and/or work in Bucks County. Each year, the YWCA Salute to Women recognizes women in Bucks County who are making exceptional contributions to their businesses, organizations, and their communities.  

Dr. Gallo, a Fulbright Scholar and a Fellow of both the American Society of Agronomy and the Crop Science Society of America, became the 13th president of Delaware Valley University on July 1, 2016. Dr. Gallo is the first female president in the University’s history.

Under Dr. Gallo's leadership, DelVal created its first endowed professorship, launched a new graduate program in criminal justice, increased its international student population, and developed a new five-year strategic plan and vision for the University which is, “to be the leader in experiential education, empowering all learners to transform the world.” The University has welcomed numerous renowned speakers, including CNN's Brian Stelter and NPR's David Folkenflik, and started new partnerships with Longwood Gardens and W. Atlee Burpee & Co.  Dr. Gallo also helped the University start an annual Women’s Summit, which is a day of empowerment for area college and university women.
