Delaware Valley University Professor Spends Sabbatical at Cornell University

Delaware Valley University Professor of Horticulture Dr. Jackie Ricotta returned to her alma mater, Cornell University, for the fall 2018 semester to serve as a visiting faculty member. Dr. Ricotta spent her fall sabbatical as a visiting faculty member in Cornell’s School of Integrative Plant Science. 

During her time at Cornell, Dr. Ricotta also sat in on four courses; gave a guest lecture in one class; and was invited to be the peer reviewer for three courses. She also presented a seminar for the Cornell horticulture department about incorporating hands-on learning in classes. 

“I met with numerous plant science faculty, undergraduate and graduate students; learned about their curriculum, and attended many plant science seminars,” said Dr. Ricotta. “I was also able to participate in a USDA Project Director meeting in Albuquerque. In my spare time, I hiked in the beautiful parks in the Finger lakes and visited sites from around the area.”

The semester at Cornell provided Dr. Ricotta with a chance to share her insight on hands-on learning and plant science with faculty from another institution while learning new information to bring back to DelVal’s horticulture program.
