Delaware Valley University Receives State Funding for Special Education Certification

Posted on

Delaware Valley University has been awarded a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Accelerated Special Educator Certification Program grant in the amount of $99,161. The grant, part of a statewide initiative to address the critical shortage of special education teachers, will support the University’s efforts to train and certify more educators in this high-demand field.

The funding is part of a larger $1 million investment by the Shapiro administration to expand the Accelerated Certification Program for Special Education, aimed at bolstering the state’s teacher workforce. The program allows participating colleges and universities to offer accelerated pathways for individuals seeking special education certification. These 18-month programs are designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and wish to earn a postbaccalaureate PK-12 special education teacher certification. Participants will benefit from flexible coursework, summer field experiences, mentoring and coaching by experienced special educators, and student teaching opportunities. DelVal’s program provides participants with tuition support, mentorship, and instructional coaching.

"This funding enables Delaware Valley University to expand our special education program, offering an accelerated pathway for aspiring educators," said Dr. Joseph Paris, Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at DelVal. "We are deeply committed to addressing the urgent need for highly qualified special education professionals in our region, and this funding will help DelVal provide greater opportunities for individuals passionate about making a meaningful impact in the classroom."
