Dr. Broc Sandelin and Chris Becker Appointed to Key Positions in Pennsylvania Agricultural Organizations
Delaware Valley University (DelVal) is proud to announce that two of its leaders have been appointed to key positions in agricultural organizations.
Dr. Broc Sandelin, Dean of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at DelVal, was recently appointed as a State Commissioner for the Pennsylvania Commission for Agricultural Education Excellence. Chris Becker, DelVal’s Director of Agricultural Operations, was recently appointed to the Pennsylvania Farm Link (PFL) Board of Directors.
As a State Commissioner for the Pa. Commission for Agricultural Education Excellence, Dr. Sandelin joins the 15-member commission, established by the Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture (PDA) and Education (PDE). He will play a pivotal role in developing a statewide plan for agricultural education. The commission aims to address gaps in education and training, promote work-based learning opportunities such as apprenticeships, and help Pennsylvanians pursue meaningful careers in agriculture.
Agriculture is a $132.5 billion industry in Pennsylvania and faces a growing workforce shortage as the current labor force ages. To address this, PDA and PDE have identified 25 high-demand agricultural occupations across sectors like production agriculture, animal health and veterinary services, food manufacturing, forestry and conservation. The Commission for Agricultural Education Excellence collaborates with schools and organizations across the commonwealth to ensure the next generation is prepared to meet these workforce needs.
The Pennsylvania Farm Link is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to “Linking Farmers to the Future.” Over its 27-year history, PFL has supported farmers through a variety of services, including farm succession planning, consultation and referral services. The organization’s online land-linking database connects current landowners with farmers seeking to buy or lease land. Additionally, PFL provides educational opportunities via webinars, workshops, and an online resource hub. Becker’s appointment highlights his extensive experience and dedication to fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders.
“The appointments of Chris Becker and Dr. Broc Sandelin reflect Delaware Valley University’s leadership in agriculture and education,” said DelVal Provost Dr. Gloria Oikelome. “Their expertise benefits not only our University but also the broader agricultural community as we work together to ensure a strong and sustainable future for this vital industry.”
