Student-Athlete Commits to DelVal for Outstanding Animal Science Program

High school student-athlete, Jillian Collins, committed to Delaware Valley University (DelVal) not just for athletics, but for the University's outstanding animal science program and close-knit community. Collins plays field hockey and women's softball and was recruited by DelVal's coaches, Jami Stefani for field hockey and Stefania Swider for softball.

“I have had ongoing communication with the coaches about academics and their sports programs. They have both been very helpful with scheduling visits and ensuring that I receive recognition for my academic success through financial assistance," said Collins. As she prepares to play for the Aggies in the NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Conference, Collins is especially looking forward to experiential education in animal science.

“I am so excited for this opportunity to attend DelVal with its amazing animal science program,” Collins explained. When asked what appeals to her about DelVal she responded, “having the animals on campus."

DelVal's animal science program provides a strong foundation in science with relevant opportunities for hands-on animal experience right on campus. Students work directly with animals in their first year and apply what they're learning in on-campus agriculture facilities. The University provides unique opportunities for students to connect with one another through animal science-focused clubs and organizations and access to a robust network of alumni for career and internship opportunities. Animal science classes cover subjects like animal behavior, anatomy, nutrition, genetics, diseases, physiology and reproduction as well as topics such as agricultural economics, marketing, legal aspects and more.

In addition to the University's animal science program, there are other aspects of DelVal that Collins enjoys. "There are walking trails on and around campus with a pond to be able to fish. The campus is also small, which is exactly what I was looking for.”
