Ruth has designed and taught courses about data analysis, research methods, fieldwork, and the criminal justice system. As a researcher, she addresses policy-relevant and interdisciplinary questions about crime, the criminal justice system, social inequalities, and public health in urban communities. One of her articles, published in the Journal of Experimental Criminology, explored the place-based effect of outpatient methadone maintenance treatment facilities on crime in Philadelphia. Before her doctoral studies, Ruth was a criminal defense attorney for six years; her work included representing clients unable to financially afford private counsel.
