DelVal to celebrate the inauguration of Dr. Maria Gallo
Delaware Valley University is celebrating the inauguration of Dr. Maria Gallo, the first female president in the University’s 121-year history. Dr. Gallo will be inaugurated Thursday, April 6 as the 13th president of DelVal. The installation ceremony will be held at 2:15 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building auditorium.
There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony in the University’s Student Center. The ceremony and reception are open to invited guests and media only. The University will livestream the ceremony for those who cannot attend.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead an incredibly dynamic institution with a rich history of interdisciplinary education,” said Dr. Gallo. “It was clear from the beginning that DelVal is a special university, where traditions of the founder are still in place. I look forward to continuing Rabbi Krauskopf’s vision.”
The theme of Dr. Gallo’s Inauguration speech will be “Dream. Design. Do.”
“Dreams are the raw material of most great accomplishments in the lives of people as well as universities,” said Dr. Gallo. “And the route from idea to accomplishment often follows the path of Dream... Design... Do. Someone takes their dream and applies the discipline of designing a workable plan. Then comes the "Do" stage, the high-energy process of making it happen, despite the inevitable setbacks along the way. At each stage the process becomes more communal. This is a productive path well traveled at Delaware Valley University. ‘Dream ... Design ... Do’ is part of our identity, and that was a big part in my decision to accept the honor of becoming your president. I look forward to continuing along this path with the DelVal community as we build on our heritage and deliver on our dreams.”
Speakers representing faculty, staff, students and alumni will welcome Dr. Gallo at the installation ceremony. Students will have viewing parties on campus April 6 where they will watch the livestream of the installation ceremony and a sign a giant greeting card for Dr. Gallo. Additional campus celebrations of inauguration include: an academic forum on journalism featuring speakers from CNN and NPR and a commemorative tree planting.
