Larry Arrington has been selected as Delaware Valley University’s new dean for advising and academic success. Arrington was chosen for the position following a national search.

Previously the assistant dean of the educational support services division at the Community College of Philadelphia, Arrington brings 20 years of student academic support experience to his new role at DelVal.

“Larry is committed to academic student success, and his knowledge and experience will help Delaware Valley University enhance academic student support services,” said DelVal Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Benjamin Rusiloski. “He has experience leading efforts that have improved both the academic and social experience for students. I look forward to working with Larry on programs that will have a positive impact on our students.”

At the Community College of Philadelphia, Arrington helped manage academic advising and support services for four locations and made significant contributions toward improved student service and quality. He served on several college committees providing guidance on topics such as registration procedures for new and continuing students, student life, and creating a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ students. Arrington improved advising services for ESL students by increasing access to faculty advisors and working with colleagues to enhance the group registration process. He also supervised library staff and supported other projects and initiatives relevant to academic student success and retention.

Before working for the Community College of Philadelphia, Arrington served as assistant dean of the Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics Division at Delaware County Community College in Media, Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for recruiting, hiring and evaluating adjunct faculty. He supported student success and retention efforts including summer programs, orientation events, and mentoring programs. Arrington made time to interact with students on a regular basis, serving as both a professional mentor for first-year students and an advisor for the Student Engineering Club. He was also involved in planning Women’s History Month and Black History Month events for the campus.

Arrington is a graduate of Eastern University, where he earned a master’s in multicultural education. He also has a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Drexel University.

“I am thrilled to have been selected to serve as dean for advising and academic success,” said Arrington. “I am impressed with the experiences provided to DelVal students and the University's student-centered culture.  I look forward to joining colleagues in efforts to further enhance student success. Completing a college degree is a life-changing accomplishment, and it will be tremendously rewarding to support DelVal students who are working toward this achievement.”
