Registration Open for, “Straight to the Core: Navigating Food Security in our Community."

“Straight to the Core: Navigating Food Security in our Community,” a program of the Hunger Nutrition Coalition (HNC) of Bucks County, is set for Tuesday, March 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Delaware Valley University. The event will be held in the Moumgis auditorium, located in the University’s Student Center. The program is open to the public at no cost. Guests are required to register in advance online. 

“The Forum is an opportunity for the public to learn about food insecurity in our community by hearing from experts in the field and local food relief organizations,” said Heather Foor, Bucks County Opportunity Council food program manager. “Attendees will leave with strategies that they can use to help food insecure individuals and a knowledge of what they can do to help support the efforts already being made in Bucks County.”
 
New York Times Bestselling Author Leanne Brown, who wrote, “Good and Cheap, Eat Well on $4/Day,” a healthy cookbook for food stamp budgets, is the keynote speaker. Brown will be available to sign copies of her cookbook at from 11 to 11:30 a.m. DelVal President Dr. Maria Gallo will provide the opening remarks. 

Also scheduled to speak are Bucks County Commissioner Chairman Robert Loughery, Manager of the Families Living Well Program for St. Mary Medical Center Joann Dorr, Director of Community Impact & Pennsbury LYFT Project Director for the United Way of Bucks County Tim Philpot and Bucks County Opportunity Council Executive Director Erin Lukoss.  

The event will also include a group work session facilitated by the Bucks County Opportunity Council, local food and hunger statistics provided by the United Way of Bucks County, and videos about hunger provided by The Intelligencer and aha! Process Inc. 

HNC is a group of hunger relief partners, including the Bucks County Opportunity Council, whose mission is to ensure food security and access to healthy, nutritious meals for all residents of Bucks County through educating, connecting and promoting the efforts of hunger relief partners.
