Our Equine Training Programs offer a variety of equine-related courses throughout the year for community members ranging from middle school to adults.
The Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) is a non-profit organization that was created to promote equestrian competition and instruction. The Delaware Valley University IEA Team is open to all middle and high school riders who can walk, trot, and canter independently on an unfamiliar horse. Students in our program will have the opportunity to lesson on college-owned horses and compete at local IEA shows in hunt seat equitation. At IEA shows, riders only have a brief warm-up on a horse supplied by the hosting team before competing over fences or on the flat. Riders accumulate points at each show to qualify individually or as a team for post season competitions such as regionals, zones, and nationals.
Designed for both individuals interested in starting a career in equine massage or for those already in the field who wish to add a certificate to their credentials, this one weekend per month course will blend pedagogy with experiential learning to cover critical aspects of this discipline, leading to certificate in the area. Structured as a five-hour per session Saturday and Sunday course, you will begin with an examination of equine anatomy and musculature and proceed to basic hands-on techniques to understand common conditions and pathologies. Several field trips are part of the program, including visits to local horse barns. Case studies and presentations will be part of the final evaluation. Participants must be 18 years old by the first day of the program, no exceptions.
